Yoga Classes at thepractice

Yoga is more than simply stretching the structure of the body in order to gain flexibility, it is an evolved system of living. So, in addition to the more obvious benefit of an increased sense of ease of movement and postural alignment, there is also the significant sense of ease one often experiences mentally and emotionally.

Paul’s passion for yoga began began at the age of 14 inspired by his first Hatha yoga teacher who continues to teach and inspire well into her eighties! His interest in yoga has taken him to India to practice and study various styles and aspects of yoga, completing his Yoga Teacher Training Diploma in 2003 from The Devon School of Yoga.

Paul has a particular interest in how to practice yoga in the most calming way.
Movements are slow and gentle - postures held for a longer time - muscles generally relaxed - breathing soft and natural, …all bringing an awareness to the quiet stillness and spaciousness inside.

This way of practicing also focuses the physical effects of the postures into the connective tissue, fascia, joints and meridians. This Yin or ‘soft’ way of practising can be seen as a compliment to the more Yang or ‘stronger’ muscular styles.

Meditation and Yoga Nidra are an integral part of Paul’s classes. Yoga Nidra includes a guided relaxation whilst the body is lying down, warm and comfortable. As the relaxation progresses, there is often the increasing sense that we are pervaded by a lovely calm and quiet spaciousness that melts away and releases tension in the mind and body.

This helps to create a neurological and biochemical shift away from a ‘stressed out’ system to one that is more relaxed, healthy and peaceful.
